ThunderCats foi uma série
de animação desenvolvida por Rankin/Bass e distribuída por
Lorimar-Telepictures em 1983, baseado nos personagens criados por
Tobin "Ted" Wolf. A animação foi produzida por Pacific Animation
Corporation, um grupo de estúdios japoneses, incluindo a Topcraft,
que mais tarde viria a formar o Studio Ghibli. A primeira temporada
foi ao ar em 1985 (com 65 episódios), seguido do filme intitulado
ThunderCats - HO! em 1986. As temporadas 2 (1987-1988), 3
(1988-1989), e 4 (1989-1990), seguiram o novo formato de 20
episódios cada. Também foram produzidos uma série de histórias em
quadrinhos pela Marvel Comics, publicada de 1985 a 1988; e mais
duas outras séries pela Wildstorm e DC comics, inciadas em 2003. No
Brasil, a série foi inicialmente exibida em 1986 até 1990 pela
Globo, exibindo somente os primeiros 100 episódios dos 130
produzidos. Em 1995, Thundercats voltou a ser exibido pelo canal,
no bloco Tv Colosso. Nesse período também havia começado a ser
exibido pela Warner Channel e pelo Cartoon Network. Em 02 de julho
de 2001 passou a ser exibido pelo SBT, no programa "Bom Dia &
Cia", na época apresentado por Jackeline Petkovic, desta vez,
exibindo também o restante da série.
